I took several trips to Nicaragua trying to surf (it was usually a little bit too gnarly for me), and ended up making web sites promoting the surf trade. The sites have gone on without me, but you can still see my archived work on The Wayback Machine. The time I first went to Nicaragua in 1999 it was still a little scary to many North Americans, so in the web site I emphasized the Sandinista/Contra mystique. My client's name was Dale Dagger.
An earlier surf trip to Puerto Rico in 1994 inspired me to write an article about a New Jersey surfer I met down there named Tom Luker. The piece appeared in Surfer Magazine.
