Old Iowa State Capitol Renovation 1974-5

I spent a year studying documentary film in Iowa City and was asked to periodically capture the ongoing re-construction of the 1842 building. I’m now in the process of getting this collection of photographs ready to be available in the University of Iowa Special Collections under a Creative Commons license. Here are 32 images from the collection.

Ironically, all of their careful work was destroyed in 2001 in a fire started accidentally by a man working with a blowtorch. The building was re-restored in 2003 .
